Joseph Plunkett

This project was a special and meaningful one for us. It was created for the Joseph Plunkett Train Station in Waterford. Named after one of the most significant leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising. He was a true legend in Irish history. Joseph Mary Plunkett played a pivotal role in the Irish fight for independence. His legacy is celebrated across the country. The station itself, bearing his name, provided the perfect canvas for a tribute to this national hero.

I see his blood upon the rose

Our task was to create a piece of art that would honor Plunkett’s contribution to Irish history. While also capturing the spirit of his work. We chose to incorporate a famous quote from his iconic poem ‘I see his blood upon the rose’ as part of the mural. This made the artwork not only a visual representation but also a deep, emotional connection to his words. Alongside the quote, we painted a powerful depiction of Joseph Plunkett himself. By capturing the somber and determined essence of the man who sacrificed so much for Ireland’s future.

1916 Easter Rising

The mural has become an important piece of the daily experience for commuters, tourists, and travelers passing through the station. It serves as a subtle yet poignant welcome sign as you enter the beautiful county of Waterford. This reminds everyone of Plunkett’s indelible mark on Irish history. The artwork has truly become a part of the fabric of the station, with its significance extending far beyond just a mural.

In 2016, to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising, the artwork was featured in The Centenary, a prestigious Irish book commemorating this nationwide event. It was a great honor to have our work included in such a meaningful publication, recognizing both the artistic and historical significance of the project.

This mural not only honors the memory of Joseph Plunkett but also continues to resonate with the public, leaving an impact on all who see it.
