Into The West – My Latest Mural
Completed on June 10, 2019, Into The West stands as my largest mural to date, both in scale and significance. The piece is inspired by the 1992 Irish film Into the West, a beloved classic that captured the hearts of many. Some of the film’s most iconic scenes were shot at the Savoy Cinema in Portarlington. By making this location deeply connected to the story’s magic and nostalgia.
For over 25 years, the Savoy Cinema stood as a quiet relic in the heart of Portarlington. Its faded façade serving as a reminder of its vibrant past as a cultural hub. When the opportunity arose to transform this historic building with my artwork. I recognised it as more than just a mural; it was a chance to breathe new life into Portarlington’s history and energise the community.
Hearing locals share their memories of the film’s production was truly moving. They spoke with excitement about seeing their town on the big screen. Also recounting moments of cast and crew walking through the streets. The overwhelming response to the mural has been humbling. With many people sharing personal stories and expressing a renewed appreciation for the cinema’s legacy. Reviving this landmark with color and creativity has been an honor, and I hope Into The West not only pays tribute to the film but also serves as a symbol of creativity for the town’s future.
