Blood Wedding Wexford – Aoife Mac Murrough, the princess of Leinster, was the daughter of Dermot Mac Murrough, the King of Leinster, and Richard de Clare. Was a powerful Norman warlord who would later become famously known as Strongbow. In 1170, just after the Norman invasion of Ireland, Aoife and Strongbow married in Waterford, sealing a crucial alliance. Dermot Mac Murrough had promised Strongbow not only his daughter’s hand in marriage but also the succession rights to the Kingdom of Leinster, a strategic move that would greatly influence the future of Ireland.
